The crime thriller is executive produced by Jessica Biel, who stars in it as well. Obsessed with finding out the woman’s motive for the crime, an investigator (Bill Pullman) travels a path into her psyche to uncover the secrets hidden in her past.
Biel executive produces the series with her producing partner Michelle Purple through their company Iron Ocean, as well as Simonds and Charlie Gogolak. “Mostly, I’m thrilled to introduce the world of The Sinner to audiences with the tremendous support of our bold partners, Universal Cable Productions and U.S.”. Included in USA’s announcement was news that the drama will be an anthology, with each season closed-ended.
Biel is also an executive producer of the show, a planned anthology series based on a novel by German author Petra Hammesfahr.
USA Network announced today that they have order The Sinner to series. The series marks the first project to be picked up to series under Biel and Purple’s POD deal with Universal Cable Productions. “The series’ unique perspective intrigued us from the very beginning, and Universal Cable Productions, Jessica Biel and the entire team behind and in front of the cameras have delivered something very special”.
The drama also continues the cable network’s push into darker programming, joining a slate that also includes “Mr. Robot“, “Colony” and “Queen of the South”.
U.S. has given a series order to anthology drama The Sinner, the network announced at the Television Critics Association’s press tour on Tuesday. While the pilots for “Damnation” and “The Tap” are already complete, whether or not they are getting a series pickup is still to be discussed.
The Sinner puts U.S. into the ultra-competitive limited-series category featuring such series as FX’s American Crime Story – which will not return until 2018 – as well as ABC’s American Crime.
