The Weeknd And Belly Decide To Cancel Appearances And Boycott ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live ’ Over Conflicting Views With Donald Trump

The Weeknd and Belly canceled their Wednesday performance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” because of the episode’s other guest, Donald Trump. The duo, who were set to perform “Might Not” on the late-night show, were replaced by singer Gregory Porter.

Trump, the presumptive GOP nominee, has repeatedly proposed to ban all Muslims from entering the United States. Ottawa rapper Belly was born in Palestine and is one of the 1.6 billion Muslims that Trump has targeted. Belly told The Associated Press that he did not want to appear with Trump given his stance toward members of his religion:

I just didn’t want to feel like I was a part of a celebration for somebody who has beliefs that majority of us don’t agree with … For me, being Muslim and being somebody that appreciates my access here in America, I love the fact that I’m able to be here. The fact that I could lose that ability through the actions of someone such as Donald Trump isn’t right to me. At all.

Kudos to Belly and The Weeknd for taking a stand against Trump. Imagine how horrible it would be if Muslim stars couldn’t enter the U.S.? We would lose Zayn Malik!
