Where Prince William, Kate Will Stay If They Go to Yosemite

Should the reports prove true,Prince William and new brideKate could be on their way to San Francisco and nearby Yosemite National Park at the beginning of July.

And isn’t it right that the posh duo would be staying somewhere fit for a queen – literally.
The Mary Curry Tresidder Suite at Yosemite’s Ahwahnee Hotel became known as “The Queen’s Room” after a 1983 visit by William’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. The romantic suite features a four-poster canopy bed, to say nothing of a large bathroom with craftsmen-designed cabinets and bidet.

An employee at the picturesque hotel predicts this is where the happy couple would bunk if they journey to the area after their tour through Cananda.

Aside from the Queen’s association, the hotel suite contains another bit of lore. Mary Tressider (the daughter of a park concessionaire), who lived in the room with her husband Donald (a former president of Stanford University), died inside it on Halloween night in 1970. Many people have reportedly seen her ghost at the hotel.

Among the other notables who have registered at the Ahwahnee: Eleanor Roosevelt, Charlie Chaplin, Lucille Ball, Ronald Reagan, Walt Disney and John F. Kennedy. The hotel’s interior also inspired the set for the deserted mountain house in the 1980 Stanley Kubrick film based on the Stephen King novel, The Shining.
