Next week sees Will Smith back on the big screen, but without any big sci-fi action accompanying him, in the con artist romance Focus with future Suicide Squad co-star Margot Robbie. And now the international superstar has just lined up another project for his future slate as THR reports Smith is attached to star in Bounty, a new thriller set up at Paramount Pictures. The studio just picked up the spec script written by Sascha Penn, an up and coming writer who previously sold a spec script called The Ditch to Warner Bros. and a pitch called Yakuza vs. Mafia to Good Universe. He’s also scripting The Idolmaker remake at MGM.
As for Bounty, the story takes place in Boston and follows Smith as a man wrongly convicted of murder. He escapes from prison determined to prove his innocence, but that proves to be a nearly impossible task after the widow of the man he supposedly killed puts a $10 million bounty on his head, dead or alive. Undoubtedly this is one of those projects that Smith is interested in but likely depends on how the project develops and moves towards production. But since the actor is also producing through his own Overbrook Entertainment banner, things should go his way to make this a prime starring vehicle.
