Zayn Malik Takes Impromptu Departure From One Direction Band & Tour

In the midst of the One Direction tour, bandmember Zayn Malik is heading home to focus on some personal issues.

The 22-year-old singer is taking a brief hiatus from the band’s latest On the Road tour. “Zayn has been signed off with stress and is flying back to the UK to recuperate,” their rep announces. “The band wish him well and will continue with their performances in Manila and Jakarta.”

The handsome boybander is expected to return for the band’s March 28 performance in Johannesburg, South Africa when the group embarks upon the next leg of their fourth headlining concert tour.

Malik is exiting the tour just one day after he took to Twitter to deny cheating on fiancée Perrie Edwards after pics of him looking cozy with a blonde in Thailand emerged on Instagram (the two have been engaged since summer 2013).

“I’m 22 years old… I love a girl named Perrie Edwards,”  Zayn posted, with Perrie subsequently retweeting his tweet. “And there’s a lot of jealous f–ks in this world I’m sorry for what it looks like x.”

This isn’t the first time Malik has skipped out on a One Direction performance. Back in November, he was absent when Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson debuted their fourth studio album, Four, and performed songs from the record on the Today show in NYC.

Although his bandmates said he had a “tummy bug,” Matt Lauer asked the boys point blank, “Is it something more serious than just a minor illness? There have been rumors of substance abuse. What’s going on?”

Payne quickly denied the speculation, jumping to his pal’s defense, and Malik later told The Sun that he was “really angry and upset by what was said.”

Meanwhile, it was also reported on Thursday that The Philippine Bureau of Immigration has asked Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson to post bonds worth nearly $5,000 each, which will be lost if they are caught using illegal substances during 1-D’s concert in Manila this weekend.

The request comes in response to the local Anti-Drugs Advocate group asking the bureau to closely moniter the band’s concert permits following a video which surfaced in May that purportedly showed the two smoking marijuana.

“The condition is intended to protect the public interest should the band members commit any violation during their stay in the Philippines,” bureau spokeswoman Elaine Tan said Thursday.

A rep for One Direction had no comment on the weed bond.
