After serving jail time and parole, the “legendary” reggaeton artist, David Sanchez Badillo, better known as Tempo is a free man, and boy, does it feel good! From rocking rhythms behind bars to stepping into freedom with a beat in his heart, vamos a celebrar Tempo’s journey to liberation!

El Camino de Tempo: A Journey Through Time

Our chico from Ponce, Puerto Rico, Tempo has seen it all, from fame and fortune to handcuffs and hard time. He began his music career with an explosive bang! His debut album, “Game Over,” was an immediate success — just like my abuela’s flan at a family fiesta! He quickly rose to become one of the leading voices of reggaeton, captivating audiences with his razor-sharp rhymes and driving rhythms that made everyone want to bailar.

But then in 2002, Tempo hit a snag on his road to success. He was charged with drug trafficking and possession of firearms, landing him in federal prison for eleven years. Yikes! That’s a lot of time to practice your rhythm!

Yet through it all, Tempo never lost his touch – his flow, his flavor, his passion for the music that pulsed through his veins. He even released albums while incarcerated! Who says you can’t drop beats behind bars? When life gave him lemons, Tempo made the most bomba lemonade!

With a spirit that couldn’t be caged, continued to unleash his creativity, weaving together songs that reflected his experiences and emotions. It was his way of connecting with the world outside, of reminding us all that no matter where you are, you can still make art that resonates with people’s hearts.
