Quavo’s Rocket Foundation Unites with VP Harris to Combat Gun Violence on Takeoff’s Birthday
Rocket Foundation Unites with VP Harris
Get ready for a story that will hit you right in the corazón. Quavo, the Migos rapper extraordinaire, is turning his pain into purpose after the tragic loss of his sobrino, Takeoff. On what would have been Takeoff’s 30th cumpleaños, Quavo hosted the inaugural Rocket Foundation Summit in Atlanta, and he brought along a special amiga – Vice President Kamala Harris herself!
Now, this wasn’t just any regular summit, no señor. Quavo and Harris sat down for a fireside chat that was straight fuego, talking about the impact of community violence intervention and the importance of supporting our youth to decrease gun violence. It’s been a tough road for Quavo since Takeoff’s untimely death in 2022, but he’s not letting that stop him from making a difference. He’s still crying, still grieving, still mourning, but with the love and encouragement of his familia, including Takeoff’s mamá, he’s pushing forward with the Rocket Foundation, investing millions into ending community violence.
Quavo’s not just talking the talk, amigos. He’s walking the walk too. The Rocket Foundation has already created the Sparks Grant program, which is giving out $100,000 in grants to organizations in Atlanta that are working to minimize community violence. He’s on the ground, actually working, getting things done, raising real money, and going down into the real communities where the problem has been an issue.
The summit wasn’t just about Quavo and Harris though. It brought together families of victims with survivors, connecting them in a powerful way. There were also panels discussing the gun violence crisis in the United States and how community violence intervention is a long-term solution. Supporting our youth was another big tema del día, highlighting the importance of youth resources in the fight against gun violence.
For Quavo, this is personal. Takeoff’s death hit him hard, just like it has for so many others in the hip-hop community in recent years, from Nipsey Hussle to Pop Smoke to PnB Rock and Young Dolph. But Quavo is determined to use his platform and his voice to make a change. It hits hard when it hits home, and he’s trying to avoid that. Just because it’s next door, you don’t close your door. You can open the door and help your neighborhood. It’s joining hands with the world and making sure this awareness is on a national billboard. That’s his platform.
So let’s all take a page out of Quavo’s libro and come together to end gun violence in our communities. Because as Quavo shows us, even in the darkest of times, there’s always hope for un futuro más brillante. ¡Pa’lante, mi gente!
