Los Tigres del Norte Open Up About Their Debut MSG Show and Latest Single, ‘Aquí Mando Yo’
Los Tigres del Norte Open
Prepare to be serenaded by the voices of El Norte, Los Tigres del Norte con su nueva canción, “Aquí mando yo” (I’m in Charge Here). This catchy tune is set to drop on Thursday (May 30), accompanied by an EP with the same title, and let me tell you, it’s puro fuego!
This track is a testament to the trials and triumphs of the iconic Mexican group as immigrants and their journey navigating the sometimes treacherous waters of stardom. Some verses might have you pondering if they mention the evolving landscape of Mexican music and its shiny new stars.
“Aquí mando yo, y este colmillo no lo tuve que comprar […] Ya veníamos de la tienda cuando tú ibas por el pan,” they passionately sing in the chorus. Pero, hold up, comadres y compadres. According to Jorge Hernández, the band’s leader and lead vocalist, the message isn’t directed at anyone in particular.
Hernández, in an interview with Billboard from his home in California, explained that the song tells a familiar story of countless immigrants who leave their homes with little to nothing in their pockets. He articulates that today, truth-tellers are being judged, while liars are often celebrated. Hints at individuals who fail to trace back to their roots or appreciate those who paved the way before them are subtly dropped throughout the song. Lo siento, but isn’t it our duty to give credit where it’s due, just like Los Tigres offer their gratitude to those who were a big part of their narrative?
“Aquí mando yo”, boasting a potent message of empowerment and wisdom, drops as Los Tigres announce the remainder of their world tour featuring a monumental debut at the legendary Madison Square Garden on May 24, 2025. Get ready, New York!
Following more than 50 performances across the United States, Mexico, South America, and Spain, Los Tigres will wrap up their year-long tour with the coveted MSG gig, their first in this renowned venue. Hernández expresses his excitement and appreciation for this milestone, emphasizing the band’s unwavering commitment to norteño music; carrying, showcasing, and dignifying it globally for over five decades. Que orgullo, no?
Coming in caliente on Thursday night, Los Tigres will presents their brand-new five-song EP, Aquí Mando Yo, via Fonovisa. Full of exciting tracks by various writers including Héctor Guerrero, the creative force behind the title song. In the spirit of respecting their peers and colleagues, unlike many artists today, Hernández gives credit where it’s due, adding his name only to tunes he has a personal hand in crafting.
“Aquí mando yo,” a musical reflection on their life journey and persistent rise, echoes Los Tigres’ belief: “The selfish never succeed.” To sum it up, the song tells the tale of those who speak the truth in a world often hypocritical, reminding us all to be grounded, honest and value our roots.
Get ready compadres, as the song and the new EP drops, make sure to mark your calendars on May 30 and gear up for the musical fiesta that is about to ensue. ¡Hasta pronto!
